CHATEAU OLLIEUX ROMANIS - Route départementale 613, 11200 Montsére

This vine-yard is much diversified. Besides making wine of absolutely highest quality they arrange a number of different activities, like art exhibitions, music-nights and it is also possible to stay the night in the gite.

The production of wine is mainly AOP Corbières, with the prestige wine Atal Sia of AOP Corbières Boutenac. Another prestige wine is Cuvèe d’Or that we have tried a case of and found absolutely exceptional, but a little on the expensive side. They also produce white and rose-wine and a few designers wine under Vdp d’Oc.

If you have opportunity it might be a good idea to join one of their events and taste their wine together with buffet food. They also sell wine from the caveau at those occasions.

LES CELLIERS d'ORFEE

LES CELLIERSd'ORFEE - 53 Avenue de Corbières, Ornaison

Again we have one of the cave cooperative that produces absolutely top wines in the Corbières area. They have their production in Ornaison and also p renisein Ferrals des Corbières. The name Orfe is formed by the first parts of the name of the two villages. The members of this cooperative comes however from a much larger area in Corbières and can there for get the absolutely best grapes that are harvested by the members, even from the prestigious Terroir de Boutenac. 

The wine is mainly made from the usual varieties in Corbières – Carignan, Syrah, Grenach and Mourvèdre, but other verities are also used in their white and rosé.

They produce six red wines, one rosé and one white. The red prestige wines are very powerful and can be saved for 10+ years easily. The most powerful wine is Cuvée Sextant and B de Boutenac is a more elegant and powerful wine of AOP Corbières Boutenac.

From this vine-yard, we always make sure we have a case of every year of B de Boutenac and Cuvèe Sextant to mature in our cellar.

 

CHATEAU DE LUC SUR ORBIEU

CHATEAU DE LUC SUR ORBIEU  - Famille Fabre, 11200 Luc sur Orbieu 

Château de Luc is owned by Famille Fabre and is really worth a visit of the wine lover. It is located in the little village Luc sur Orbieu along the river Orbieu. 

Their range of wine is wide an besides traditional Corbières wine the produce excellent ecological wine and a number of variety wines. Their prestige red is a AOP Corbières Boutenac with the name Château Fabre Gasparet and is absolutely fantastic at a very reasonable price. My cellar never lacks bottles of this wine of different age. At the moment I find the 2008 perfect to drink, five years old as it is. A few bottles I will forget for 10+ years.

The ecological wines are sold under the name Château Coulon and unlike most ecological wine in the area they are really well made. My theory is that many not so good wine makers go into ecological production as they always have a market despite tasting quality. Here we find a master wine maker very dedicated to ecological production and quality.

They also make a few variety wines and a vin doux on Grenach, not unlike a Port wine or the more nearby Rivesaltes from Roussillon.

CHATEAU GRAND MOULIN

CHATEAU GRAND MOULIN -  RN 113, 6,Bd Maréchal Galliéni 11200 LEZIGNAN CORBIERES

This vine-yard was originally located on the banks of river Orbieu just outside Luc sur Orbieu, but in the great flood 1999 all the premises were destroyed, so they have now moved production and wine shop to Lezignan-Corbières. The selections of varieties they grow are larger than most producers in the area. The base is the typical verities for Corbières wine - Syrah, Carignan, Grenache noir, Mourvèdre, but they also grow Cinsault, Vermentino, Maccabeu, Grenache blanc and more. All these are old verities that go into the white and rosé wines of AOP Corbières.

Also typical for the area, this is mainly a producer of red wine. The prestige cuvee is their Cru Corbières Boutenac, which is a wine worth getting a few cases of as it is of outmost quality and accepts many years in your cellar, where it matures in a fine way. The most powerful wine though is a traditional AOP Corbières that grows on the red soil in the little village Conhilhac. The name of this wine is logically enough Terres Rouges and is matured on oak. They also produce a number of other AOP Corbières wine, one from very old vine. All harvest for the red wine is done by hand, which is a must for AOP Corbières Boutenac. They also produce two white wines and one rosé.
